Once Upon a Time in Anatolia - Nuri Bilge Ceylan (2011)

The filming is beautiful - the way it captures every character, making everyone seem important, making you feel for each of them, understand each of them. The dialogue is mostly about unimportant things - boring, everyday annoyances, gossip, whatever. The faces tell us about deeper things happening outside of useless talking. I love the subtleties of theme, purpose, story. Most people would find this boring, but it had me hooked within 5 minutes and made me want to keep watching to figure out the story and the characters. It's just really really good.

Watch it!

Toto le Heros - Jaco Van Dormael (1991)

Well, this movie has some really interesting ideas and strong images, the story just doesn't come together very well. It seems a lot like Mr. Nobody - the theme and some of the cinematography, then I learned... same director! After learning that, I have more respect for the film because I realize it is Dormael's initial attempt at a very interesting story/concept that works beautifully in Mr. Nobody. So, I think it's worth watching only if you'll watch Mr. Nobody too - it's cool to see the director's progression.
Also, I love this guy in the picture, singing Boum - such a happy man! I just wanna hug him.

Mmmm   watch it.
